Arts and culture in Edmonton

Edmonton is home to many museums and galleries. There is something for every art and culture lover!

Royal Alberta Museum

The Royal Alberta Museum has been telling the story of the culture and landscape of the province of Alberta for many years. Located in the heart of the Arts District, the museum takes you on a journey of discovery through the province. Learn about the area’s first inhabitants and the development the Alberta has experienced over the centuries. Keep an eye on the museum’s website for temporary exhibits and current updates.

Art Gallery of Alberta

The Art Gallery of Alberta is an art gallery that links people, art and innovative ideas. Mainly modern and historical art from the state of Alberta hangs in the gallery. The museum already has more than 6,000 art objects in its possession. Not surprising, considering that the Art Gallery of Alberta has been around since 1924. Every day there are special “On The Spot!” tours where you can engage in a group discussion about the artworks with a museum staff member.

University of Alberta Botanic Garden

A must-visit for nature and garden lovers is the University of Alberta Botanic Garden. With 80 acres of landscaped gardens (and 110 additional acres of natural areas and ecological reserves), there is much to explore. Don’t miss the new Aga Khan Garden, donated by His Highness the Aga Khan himself. These are 4.8 acres of beautiful modern architecture inspired by Moghul traditions and designed for the climate and topography of the Edmonton region.
